Add a computer
A computer joins ITvated in two parts. You run a small setup program on the Windows computer, and then you approve that computer in the console. Nothing connects to your organization until you approve it.
Before you start
- A Windows computer you are allowed to install software on, and someone who can approve the Windows permission prompt on it.
- An ITvated account with permission to enrol computers. If you do not see the Add a computer page or cannot approve a connection, ask your administrator for enrolment permission.
- Room in your organization's plan. If your plan is full, approval fails until capacity is added.
Steps
- Sign in to ITvated and open Devices, then choose Add a computer.
- Choose Download GoAgent for Windows. The page shows the version and the publisher of the download. Save the file on the computer you want to add (
ITvatedGoSetup.exe). - Run the setup file on that computer. Windows asks for permission to continue, because setup installs ITvated's agent and its updater as Windows services. Approve the prompt.
- Setup shows the computer name and a connection code. Leave that window open.
- Back in the console, type the connection code into Connection code and choose Check computer.
- Compare the computer name and code shown in the console with the ones on the computer's screen. Choose the organization the computer belongs to.
- Tick This name and code match the computer I am connecting, then choose Approve connection.
- Wait. The page shows Approved. Waiting for GoAgent to finish setup and check in. When the computer has connected, it shows Connected. GoAgent has checked in and your computer is online. Choose View devices to see it.
Only approve a connection you started. If a name or code does not match the computer in front of you, do not tick the box. A code you did not request could belong to someone else's computer.
If the download is not available
The page may say GoAgent setup is not available yet. That means the installer has not been published for your workspace yet. Ask your administrator, or ITvated, to publish it. Nothing is wrong with your computer.
Fixing problems
| What you see | What it means and what to do |
|---|---|
| The connection code expired or could not be found | Codes are short-lived. Check the code now shown by setup, copy it again, and try once more. If setup was closed, run it again to get a new code. |
| The connection code format is invalid | Copy the whole code shown by setup, with nothing added or missing. |
| Your session expired | Sign in again, then check the computer again. |
| Your account cannot inspect this connection | Your account is missing permission for this workspace or for enrolling computers. Ask your administrator. |
| Too many code checks | Wait a moment before trying again. |
| The connection service could not be reached | Try again shortly. This does not mean the code expired. |
| This computer could not be approved | Check that you have enrolment permission and that your plan has room for another computer. |
| The connection window ended before setup checked in | Setup did not finish in time. Run the installer again, check the computer's internet connection, and ask your administrator if it repeats. |
| A device identity could not be issued | The computer was approved, but ITvated could not give it its secure identity. Ask your administrator to contact ITvated. |
What happens next
When the computer shows as online in Devices, it is connected to your organization. The agent only performs actions from ITvated's approved list, and those actions are recorded.
